The management of the Kuin River in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, faces serious degradation due to domestic waste, uncontrolled urbanization activities, and changes in rainfall patterns that trigger seasonal floods. resulting in negative economic externalities such as infrastructure losses of billions of rupiah annually, decreased productivity of local fisheries, and public health burdens due to water-based diseases. This study comprehensively analyzes the role of civic engagement of riverbank communities including initiatives such as community waste banks, planting of riparian vegetation, control of aquatic weeds, and self-sustaining monitoring of water quality as a strategic local contribution to the global green economy transition, integrated with the perspective of Global Economic Studies that highlight globalization, sustainable development (SDGs 6: clean water, 11: sustainable cities, 13: climate action), as well as the reduction of economic-environmental inequality across scales. Therefore, a community-based environmental management model is needed that places the community as the main actor in maintaining the preservation of the Kuin River.
