Abstract

Moderate Islamic thought has become a crucial framework in addressing the challenges of globalization and modern socio-political dynamics. Fazlur Rahman, as a prominent contemporary Islamic thinker, emphasizes the importance of contextual interpretation of the Qur’an and Hadith to produce Islamic thought that is relevant, inclusive, and adaptive. This article aims to analyze Fazlur Rahman’s approach to moderate thought, focusing on text reinterpretation methodology, social relevance, and its implications for the renewal of contemporary Islamic thought. The research method employed is qualitative library research, with a descriptive-interpretative analysis of Rahman’s works. The findings indicate that Fazlur Rahman’s thought stresses a balance between the fundamental principles of Islam and the contextual needs of modern society, thus offering an alternative understanding of Islam that is both moderate and humanistic. This article concludes that the reinterpretation of moderate Islamic thought is not only relevant for academics but also for practical implementation in education, policy, and the social life of Muslims
