Abstract

Fasting is one of the obligatory acts of worship for muslims during the month of Ramadan. However, certain conditions allow for exemptions, including pregnant women and women in the postpartum (nifas) period. This article discusses the ruling of fasting for pregnant and postpartum women in the perspective of Islamic teachings by referring  to the Qur’an, hadith, and the opinions of Islamic scholars. This study uses a literature review approach to analyse religious evidence as well as health considerations for the mother and child. The results show that pregnant and postpartum womem are permitted not to fast if it is feared to endanger themselves or the fetus, with the Obligation to make up the missed fasts on other days or provide fidyah according to their situation. Therefore, the implementation of fasting laws for these conditions is flexible and adjusted to individual capability.
