This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings in the baayun bapukung tradition of the Banjar ethnic community. This tradition is a cultural heritage that is still preserved and contains social, religious, and cultural values. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretative method. Data were collected through literature study and documentation, and analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach, which includes denotation, connotation, and myth. The results show that the main symbols in this tradition include the cradle, bapukung cloth, prayer recitations or chants, and the involvement of family and community. At the denotative level, these symbols function as elements of the ritual. At the connotative level, they represent protection, affection, hope, and social solidarity. At the myth level, the tradition reflects the Banjar community’s belief in spiritual protection, child safety, and the preservation of cultural values. Therefore, the baayun bapukung tradition functions not only as a cultural practice but also as a symbolic medium for transmitting life values across generations.
